Frequently asked questions.
What should I wear for my session?
It will depend on which session you choose and what your goals are for the session. You may be asked to undress to your level of comfort, to wear comfortable clothing allowing for stretching and movement, such as worn for yoga.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is typically performed on bare skin, though it may be adapted to over the sheet/drape in certain areas for modesty.
Move & Align sessions are typically clothed. Shorts or athletic tights that allow for full movement and sports bra/tank top is usually recommended., If techniques like cupping and myofascial scraping (aka gua sha) are to be used, which require direct access to skin, then that will be communicated to you prior to your session.
Unwind sessions are to Your comfort level.
What does it mean to “Undress to your level of comfort”?
Sessions will be adjusted to how much clothing you leave on. You’ll have a sheet and most likely a blanket, unless blanket is declined, covering you at all times. Only the area of your body receiving massage will be uncovered.
Sessions without a sheet are only offered if you stay clothed. Comfortable clothing allowing for movement is recommended.
Bare skin allows for more gliding and sweeping type of massage techniques. Clothed massage may incorporate more compression, stretching, and rocking techniques to achieve the same results.
What type of massage and bodywork techniques do you use?
It will depend on the bodywork service, your preference of light to firm pressure, your past experience with massage, and your goals for your session.
Swedish, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, cranial sacral, manual lymph drainage (lymphatic massage), positional release, unwinding, light touch, dermoneuromodulation, muscle energy techniques, facilitated stretching, Thai bodywork, scar tissue release, intraoral manual therapy, and therapeutic deep tissue techniques may be applied alone or in combination based on the information you provide on your intake forms and goals for your session discussed in the pre-session interview.
Why do I have to fill out intake forms?
The information provided on intake forms are to ensure we can provide the best care for your needs and health. There are instances where it may be necessary to adjust for health issues or when certain techniques may aggravate or cause a flare-up of those conditions. It also helps us establish a baseline of where you are in health and pain levels, so we can track improvements or be alerted to issues that may be better addressed by another health professional.
